Overview

Exhibition Title

Books of Drawings from the 16th through the 19th Century

Exhibition Description

For our debut exhibition with Master Drawings New York, we present a selection of museum-quality books and manuscripts spanning four centuries and three continents, demonstrating the diversity of the drawing-book as both artistic record and an important medium for disseminating knowledge.

The selections from our inventory include artists’ drawing-books, an imaginary atlas created for the Doge of Venice, and faithful drawings of the Amazon from the 18th century. We will highlight a suite of drawings representing the original designs of the Sistine Chapel before the censoring of the intimate parts.

The exhibition will take place in our gallery at 23 East 73rd Street, where we will also have many beautifully illustrated and early printed books on display.
