The principal source is a letter from Fr. Antonio Baradas, who describes the remarkable progress of Christianity within the Chinese Empire. The account emphasizes the growing favor shown to Jesuit missionaries at the imperial court, particularly under the influence of the eminent Jesuit Andreas Xavier Koffler (Xu Ande) and other missionaries serving the ruling authorities. The narrative highlights numerous baptisms, conversions among officials and members of the elite, and the increasing prestige of Christianity in several regions.

Particular attention is given to political events surrounding the transition from the Ming to the Qing period. The letter recounts the favorable disposition of princes, military leaders, and regional rulers toward the missionaries, as well as the role of Christian communities amid warfare and dynastic conflict. Reports from Macau and other mission centers describe missionary activity, church growth, and the strengthening of Christian institutions.

This letter concludes with additional news from Tonkin and Southeast Asia, stressing divine providence, missionary perseverance, and optimism for the continued expansion of the Christian faith throughout East Asia despite ongoing political upheaval.
