Ranzeta, Annibale
Apparently the only edition—and unrecorded—of this pamphlet documenting a miraculous event that occurred in Malta in December 1565, wherein a lady dressed in white and holding a drawn sword appeared in the sky. The apparition was taken as a premonition that, despite the Siege of Malta having ended, the largest naval engagement in history was still to begin.

8vo. 4 ff. Later marbled boards, worn. Some scattered foxing, overall excellent condition.
Indeed, the time in which it occurred was not irrelevant; it was the period building up to the Battle of Lepanto, and only months after the Knights of Malta defeated the Ottoman Empire in their siege of Malta, one of the most significant events in 16th century Europe. Whether it was a premonition, a show of Godly protection, or a demonstration of Marian devotion, remains unclear. Whatever the case, a fine example of a Renaissance report of events.
The report is extremely rare: no copy shows up in OCLC, and we are unable to locate any other copies elsewhere.
