First and only edition of one of the great monuments of late gothic woodcut design, a richly illustrated devotional text published by Anton Koberger’s press two years before the Nuremberg Chronicle, and one of the earliest German illustrated books with woodcuts that can be attributed to a specific artist, with 96 full-page woodcuts from 91 blocks by Michael Wolgemut, Michael Pleydenwurff and their workshop, and woodcut Hebrew letters on leaf d4. Illuminated (probably by a contemporary South German or even Nuremberg artist) with three splendid initials with floral borders, some leaves ruled in red.
